The Tesla Model 3 has been available in Europe since March 2019 and has sold very well since then. In September 2023, the Model 3 was given a facelift, which of course also affects the Long Range Model. Tesla's product range includes the Tesla Model 3 Performance, the Model 3 Long Range and the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range.

The Long Range version is the middle range and for many customers is the compromise between maximum performance and the Standard Range with a lower range. In this article, we would like to explain what the Long Range version is, what the differences are and whether the extra cost compared to the Standard Range model is worth it.

In terms of design, Tesla has aligned the two cheaper models since the 2023 facelift. The Performance variant is not yet available for purchase at this moment, but will have the same design when delivered.

Since the facelift, the Tesla Model 3 has a sportier, more aggressive look. This is achieved, among other things, by the narrow matrix LED headlights at the front and a sportier front view by omitting the fog lights and the Tesla logo in chrome.

The rear view of the Model 3 has of course also become sportier thanks to the facelift. This is due, among other things, to the narrow U-shaped rear headlights (see photo), which, together with the Tesla lettering on the rear, give the car a nicer, sportier look.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range has the lettering "Dual Motor" on the rear. This reveals that this is the Long Range and not the Standard Range model, as this is equipped with only one motor.

With the change in design with the facelift, Tesla is implementing the fundamental criticism of the Model 3 that it is too tamely designed, especially when considering the specifications.

Tesla Model 3 colors

Like the Standard Range model, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range is available in five different colors. White is included in the purchase price, the other four colors can be selected in the configurator, for which an additional charge of between €1,300.00 and €2,000.00 must be paid.

  • Pearl White Multi-Coat: White (included)

  • Deep Blue Metallic: Blue (€1,300.00)

  • Solid Black: Black (€1,300.00)

  • Ultra Red: Red (2,000.00€)

  • Stealth Grey (2,000.00€)

With the Tesla Model Y, Tesla has already launched two new colors in Europe in the past : "Midnight Cherry Red" and "Quicksilver" . Now, since the facelift, there are two new colors for the Tesla Model 3 2024: "Ultra Red" and "Stealth Grey".

Tesla Model 3 efficiency

Thanks to the well thought-out design of the exterior and the disappearance of fog lights, the Tesla Model 3 has a CW value of 0.23. This is an extremely low CW value.

When configuring, the customer can choose between two different rims.

  1. 18-inch Photon rims (678 km range WLTP)

  2. 19 inch Nova rims (1,700.00€, 629 km range WLTP)

The range differs because the Photon rims are more closed and therefore reduce the CW value. A set of winter tires can also be configured for €2,050.00.

Compared to the standard range Tesla Model 3, this results in a greater range. With the Photon rims, this is 124 km longer, with the Nova rims it is 116 km longer. With a range of 678 km, the car goes further than is necessary in everyday life and thus solves the "range problem" that many people still have with electric cars.

For an additional charge of €1,350.00, the configuration also allows for a removable trailer hitch that can pull up to one ton.

Tesla is known for focusing on minimalism and practicality in its models. This is a unique selling point in the automotive industry, but of course it also carries a certain risk. We have already discussed the interior of the Tesla Model 3 facelift in another article and explain all the new features and the current prices here.

For the Tesla Model 3 2024 we offer a range of products, perfectly tailored to your Tesla.

The technical specifications of the Long Range

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range differs in its technical specifications from the Standard Range Model 3. As mentioned above, the model is equipped with a battery that can manage 629 km according to WLTP measurements.

Apart from the larger battery, which we will discuss in more detail below in the article, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range model also differs in its all-wheel drive with two motors. One motor is on the front axle and the second motor on the rear axle. This of course enables faster and more efficient acceleration.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range accelerates from 0 to 100 in 4.4 seconds thanks to its two electric motors. The all-wheel drive also increases the performance. This is 366 kW or 497 hp for the Long Range model and is therefore 158 kW or 214 hp higher than the Model 3 Standard Range.

The dimensions of the Model 3

Like the Standard Range model, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range measures 2.1 m wide, 4.72 m long and 1.44 m high. This makes it comparable to the BMW 3 Series, the Audi A4, A5 or the Mercedes Benz C Class. This means that the Tesla Model 3 facelift can be classified as a mid-range car and is the smallest car in Tesla's product range.

The battery

The battery of the Tesla Model 3 2024 is equipped with NMC battery technology in every version. This has the advantage of offering more battery capacity in the same size.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range has a larger battery than the Standard Range Model 3. An 82 kW/h battery is installed here, while the Standard Range Model 3 "only" has a 60 kW/h battery, which is however equipped with the LFP battery technology. This is, like the Standard Range Model 3, equipped with the 400 volt architecture.

Charging the Tesla Model 3 Long Range Version

The Tesla Model 3 is charged using the European standard CCS plug. In contrast to the standard range model, however, a peak charging speed of up to 250 kW is possible here instead of 170 kW. To do this, you have to charge the electric car at a Tesla Supercharger or other fast charger.

It is of course also possible to charge the Tesla Model 3 at home using a wallbox. This will then allow a maximum of 11 kW. When ordering the Tesla, you can buy a wallbox for €500. However, it is worth checking with other providers. compare, as they often sell the products at better prices.

The Tesla Warranty

The warranty for the Tesla Model 3 is divided into

  1. base vehicle

  2. battery and drive unit

Tesla offers a 4-year warranty on the base vehicle, or 80,000 km, whichever comes first.

Tesla offers an 8-year warranty on the battery and drive unit for its Model 3, or 192,000 km. Again, it depends on which comes first. For the Model 3 Long Range, Tesla offers a 12,000 km longer warranty on the battery and drive unit than for the Standard Range.

The price

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range 2024 currently starts at a list price of €51,990. At this price, you get your electric car in pearl white multi coat with 18-inch rims, without a trailer hitch, winter tires and with a black interior.

Depending on your preferences, you can configure the trailer hitch for €1,350 or another of the four colors for up to €2,000. The extended autopilot costs €3,800 and the full autopilot costs €7,500. The autopilot configurations can also be purchased later in the Tesla app, as they only need to be implemented on the software side.

With full equipment, i.e. trailer hitch, winter tires, a different color, etc., the Tesla Model 3 Long Range can cost a maximum of €67,790. Add to that the destination and administrative fee of €980, which makes a total price of €68,770.

The environmental bonus of €3,000 has already been deducted from the purchase price of the Tesla Model 3 by the manufacturer. It remains to be seen how this will develop in Germany in the future and whether it will be extended.

Summary

The Tesla Model 3 can be classified as a mid-size sedan in the automotive industry. It was developed by Tesla as a more affordable electric car that is intended to appeal to the masses and has long been one of the most popular electric cars in the world.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range offers space for five people and is characterized by extremely high performance and range, a modern exterior and high suitability for everyday use.

All of this is offered at a price that is currently unrivaled in the field of electric mobility in terms of price-performance. The goal of reaching the masses with this model can be achieved with the Tesla Model 3 in 2024 .
