On November 30, 2023, Tesla CEO Elon Musk presented the Tesla Cybertruck in Austin, Texas at the Cybertruck Delivery Event . The delivery of the first 10 Cybertrucks took place there. The electric pick-up, which was eagerly awaited, especially in the USA, is now being delivered. In this article, we report on the delivery event and write about all the news regarding the new electric car.

The Delivery Event

In the half-hour delivery event on the evening of November 30, 2023, Elon Musk presented the Cybertruck, Tesla's electric pickup truck. He drove the Cybertruck into the studio and hosted the event from the loading area.

"We built a vehicle that the experts said couldn't be built." He presented the highlights of the Cybertruck, such as the stainless steel body and the bulletproof exterior.

Franz von Holzhausen, the designer of the car, threw a baseball at the car's window to demonstrate the shatterproof glass. The shatterproof nature of the body was also demonstrated with the help of a clip.

The Tesla Cybertruck was also compared with the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T, as these are the strongest competitors to the Cybertruck, as both are also fully electric pick-ups. In the test, the Cybertruck outshone all other pick-ups.

Towards the end of the event, Elon Musk made the first Tesla pick-up deliveries to customers.

interior

In terms of interior design, Tesla is continuing its minimalist approach with the Cybertruck. The electric pickup truck adopts Tesla's classic design. One obvious difference, however, is that the interior is more angular. Originally, when the Cybertruck was first mentioned, three seats in the driver's area were promised, but Tesla has abandoned this idea.

The steering wheel is a mixture of the classic steering wheel and the yoke steering of the Tesla Model S and X. The flattened part of the steering is striking. The gear selector lever and the indicator lever are omitted, as expected in the Cybertruck, and the functions are moved to the steering wheel.

We will soon publish an article that goes into more detail about the interior of the Tesla Cybertruck.

exterior

The highlights of the Tesla's exterior have been known for some time. These include the bulletproof exoskeleton, the shatterproof windows and the convertible top with a large loading area.

A special feature is that the car supports bidirectional charging with up to 11.5 kW and that you can supply tools with power directly from the car using a 120 V or 240 V socket on the loading area and other connections in the interior.

We will soon publish an article that goes into more detail about the Tesla's exterior.

General information about the Tesla Cybertruck

The Tesla Cybertruck has many features that have not been found in any other Tesla car.

Like the Tesla Model S and X, the pick-up is equipped with air suspension that allows a ground clearance of up to 41 cm.

The Tesla Cybertruck is equipped with a 48-volt electrical system instead of a 12-volt electrical system. This simplifies the on-board power supply in particular. The Tesla Cybertruck is also the first Tesla to be equipped with 800-volt technology. The Tesla Cybertruck is also equipped with four-wheel steering, which enables the "crab walk" in addition to a tighter steering radius. This function enables the electric car to move diagonally.

All three versions of the Tesla Cybertruck come with a 123 kWh battery.

The Tesla Cybertruck will be the first Tesla with Steer by Wire technology. This means that there is no steering rod and the steering angle is recorded by a sensor that passes the command on to the steering. This enables different gear ratios depending on the speed and surface and, together with the rear-axle steering, enables a smaller turning circle than the Tesla Model S and Model X have.

The variants

The brand's electric car comes in three different variants, which we will examine in more detail below:

rear-wheel drive

The cheapest version of the Tesla Cybertruck will be the rear-wheel drive variant, which starts at $60,990 (55,978€). Unlike the upcoming variants, this will only be available from 2025. The Cybertruck accelerates from 0 to 100 in 6.7 seconds with an estimated range of 402 km. The towing capacity will be 3,402 kg.

In terms of price, this variant with a long range and good payload is the most interesting for the American market, as the country's bonus programs mean that the US Cybertruck in this configuration will only cost $49,890 (45,790€).

Not much more information is known about the rear-wheel drive variant of the Tesla Cybertruck, as it is not yet in production.

all-wheel drive

The all-wheel drive variant is now being produced and delivered. Tesla estimates a range of 547 km at a maximum speed of 180 km/h. The car will be able to pull 4,990 kg, with a deadweight of just under three tons. The power of 600 hp ensures that even with a large payload, you can still drive agilely and sportily.

The Cybertruck's luggage compartment holds 3,423 liters and, thanks to the three full-size seats in the rear, offers space for up to five adults.

With 250 kW, the Cybertruck can charge to a maximum of 235 km in 15 minutes.

The all-wheel drive version can be purchased in the USA for $79,990. That corresponds to €73,417.

Cyberbeast

The Cyberbeast variant of the Cybertruck is a milestone in the history of electromobility and pick-ups. With a range of 515 km, the three motors accelerate from 0 to 100 in an incredible 2.7 seconds, at a maximum speed of 207 km/h. This is made possible by the three motors, with an incredible 845 hp.

The Cyberbeast variant weighs 3.1 tons, which is due to the third electric motor and, like the all-wheel drive variant, has a ground clearance of 433 mm.

The Cyberbeast version can also charge at a maximum of 250 kW, which is 235 km in 15 minutes.

The Cyberbeast variant starts at $99,990, which corresponds to €91,774.

Is the Cybertruck coming to Germany?

Tesla's electric pickup will initially only be sold in the USA. It is not yet possible to say with certainty whether and when the Tesla Cybertruck will be available in Europe. This also depends, among other things, on whether the Cybertruck is even approved in the European Union and Germany.

On the other hand, it is not certain whether Tesla is even interested in a European release. While the Cybertruck has caused a real hype in the USA, it is less popular in Europe due to its design.

Tesla's designer Franz von Holzhausen from Germany obviously designed the Cybertruck primarily for the US, which is why the EU release is probably a lower priority.

Currently, at least the Cyberbeast variant, with an empty weight of over 3,000 kg, is too heavy to be registered in the EU. The EU is working on revising this directive for electric cars, as the batteries make them increasingly heavier than cars with combustion engines.

It is also questionable whether the car is too angular and therefore too dangerous for pedestrians in the event of an accident to be approved. However, the vehicle dimensions will not be a problem, as the car has become 5% smaller compared to the pre-production model, which eliminates the third seat in the driver's area.

Summary

Elon Musk presented the Tesla Cybertruck in Texas on November 30, 2023 and delivered the first 10 vehicles. The delivery event showed the bulletproof body, shatterproof windows and comparisons with competitors. The minimalist interior offers the yoke-like steering wheel and a more angular style. The car has a 48-volt electrical system, air suspension, four-wheel steering, steer-by-wire technology and "crab walk". The rear-wheel drive variant starts in 2025 at $60,990, the all-wheel drive variant costs $79,990, and the high-performance Cyberbeast version starts at $99,990. European launch and approval are uncertain as the car could be too heavy and too angular.

The Tesla company will now begin production and processing of pre-orders and will also begin delivering the electric pick-ups.
