With the Tesla app, the popular iPhone shortcuts will also be compatible with Tesla from mid-2023. This should further increase user-friendliness. Musk resisted this for some time, but Tesla is now working with Apple on this. In this article, you will find out what functions you can expect with your Tesla and the Shortcuts app and what you can now control via Siri.
What do I need for this
In order to use the shortcuts for iPhone on your own smartphone, you obviously need an iPhone. It is also important that the Tesla app is installed - as soon as that is possible, you can use the shortcuts function. This is the case from iOS 13 , so you can use the shortcuts even with a four-year-old software version. This is from the iPhone 6S!
Using the shortcuts
To use and program the shortcuts function, you have to open the "Shortcuts" app. There you can then add the Tesla app and program various "if scenarios" .
The Shortcuts app then makes it possible to control various functions of your Tesla on iOS devices such as iPhones without any additional effort. For example, the vehicle can be locked or unlocked or the dog or guard mode can be activated or deactivated. To do this, you can simply select the desired command from a list in the Shortcuts app on the iOS device. While these actions could also be carried out via the Tesla app, the new feature is that these commands can now also be sent using voice input via Siri.

Using Siri
Until now, it was unfortunately not possible to use Apple's voice assistant Siri for Tesla functions - but that changed with the Shortcuts update. With commands like " Hey Siri, run [shortcut] " you can then use various predefined functions of the Tesla via any Siri compatible device such as the iPhone, iPad or a Home Pod.
Possible functions
There are a number of different ways to use the new shortcuts. On the one hand, you can simply use them to lock or unlock your Tesla or start the pre-conditioning - you have all the functions that you would have with the Tesla app. What is much more exciting are the scenarios that can be programmed to activate a function such as "de-ice Tesla" . In the Shortcuts app, you can program a chain of sequences that are triggered in a certain scenario.
e.g. "If it is 7:30 and Monday - Friday, then pre-condition my Tesla to 21 °C" or "If my phone is connected to the Tesla, then open the trunk and the frunk"
There are countless ways to make the car even smarter. Feel free to write us good if, then scenarios in the comments.
