Since mid-January, Tesla has reduced the interest rate on its Model Y Standard Range, Long Range and Performance models to 0.00% for leasing, balloon loans and three-way financing. This means that the price of these versions has fallen drastically without the actual purchase price of the Tesla Model Y being reduced. The offer is to remain valid until the end of March, subject to Tesla's approval. We would like to use this offer as an opportunity to take another look at all three variants of the Tesla Model Y and to compare the individual models in detail.

In mid-2024, the Tesla Model Y with "Juniper" is expected to follow the Model 3 as a facelift and will therefore get some of the innovations that we already know from the new Model 3 , such as ambient lighting or seat ventilation. Nevertheless, it can definitely be worth taking advantage of the current offer as it is not necessarily expected that such a model will be available again in the short term.

In contrast to the Tesla Model 3, all Tesla Model Y models are produced at the Gigafactory Grünheide and are therefore built in Germany for the German market.

The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in Germany in 2022. It was once again at the forefront in 2023 and is the best-selling car both in the EU and worldwide. Reason enough to take a look at the cheapest of the models.

The electric SUV, which weighs almost two tons, is impressive even in its standard configuration.

The exterior of the Tesla Model Y Standard Range is, as is usual for Tesla, very minimalist. The white front is only broken up by the LED headlights and the suggested air intakes, which are decorated with a panel. As usual with Tesla, the Model Y has a very rounded appearance in order to offer the lowest possible drag coefficient and thus increase the range. The sides have been accentuated in black since the chrome delete in the last facelift. This applies in particular to the door handles and the door frames.

The rear of the Model Y in the standard range variant has a small spoiler and is also decorated with LED taillight elements. The chrome Tesla logo, which was not blackened by the facelift, still stands out at the rear.

The interior of the Tesla Model Y looks minimalist and classy. Compared to the facelift Model 3, you might notice a few things that are missing. However, you can still enjoy the indicator lever and a lever for selecting gears, for example, which are missing in the facelift Model 3.

Depending on the equipment variant, the interior of the car is either completely black with wood accents (basic) or black and white (1,200€ surcharge).

The interior has five seats. The second row of seats can be folded down to create more storage space in the car, and this can also be done electrically from the luggage compartment. The seat backrest can also be adjusted there, although not electrically.

The huge glass roof that Tesla installs in every car creates a brighter and more spacious interior and an unobstructed view of the sky. Infrared and UV rays are effectively filtered out to reduce heat even in direct sunlight.

The 15-inch touchscreen in the Model Y allows access to everything in the car. HD images from the cameras, navigation, movies, music, games, etc. can all be operated via the touchscreen. The display also visualizes the surroundings in real time while driving to warn the driver of speed limits, upcoming traffic lights, pedestrians, cyclists and other hazards.

Below the display of the Model Y there is a wireless charging dock with a non-slip surface, which can be used to inductively charge up to two smartphones. In the center console, in addition to storage space, there are also two USB-C ports available for charging other technical devices in the car.

The Tesla Model Y in the standard version comes with a 60.0 kWh battery, of which approximately 57.5 kWh can be used. This is a battery with the LFP technology, which we explained in more detail in this article . The battery is based on the 400 volt architecture and can be charged on the go with 11 kW AC and up to 175 kW DV.

With an NCAP score of 97% for adult occupant protection, the Tesla Model Y tops the list of the safest cars in the world.

The Tesla Model Y accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. This is due to the engine in the rear, which has 220 kW (299 hp) and a maximum torque of 420 Nm. The top speed is limited to 217 km/h.

The WLTP range of this car is 455 km. In winter you can expect a range of around 300 km and in summer around 400 km.

The Tesla Model Y Standard Range is currently priced at €42,990. However, the 0.00% interest rate means you can save a lot by leasing or financing.

At first glance, the Tesla Model Y Long Range seems to be the perfect compromise between good performance and good range. We will clarify below whether this is the case and whether it is worth the extra cost of over €6,000 compared to the basic Model Y.

Externally, there is almost no difference to the base model of the Model Y.

The interior of the Model Y is similar to the base model with rear-wheel drive except for one not insignificant detail:

The rear area, which was empty in the rear-wheel drive variant, gets seat heating in the Long Range model, which can be individually adjusted for all three seats.

The interior color variants are priced the same as the rear-wheel drive Model Y.

However, the two Tesla models differ more obviously when it comes to battery and speed.

While the rear-wheel drive variant of the Model Y had "only" 455 km WLTP range when delivered, the Long Range model has a 533 km WLTP range. This is due to the 75 kWh NCM battery , which is also based on the 400 volt architecture and accelerates from 0 to 100 in 5.0 seconds thanks to two motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle. The all-wheel drive brings 378 kW (514 hp) to the road and achieves speeds of up to 217 km/h.

Like the rear-wheel drive variant, the all-wheel drive AC model can also charge with 11 kW. However, when used with DC, for example at superchargers, the all-wheel drive Model Y can manage up to 250 kW, which is quite a bit more than the rear-wheel drive variant.

The purchase price of the Model Y Long Range currently starts at €49,900, which is exactly €7,000 more than the rear-wheel drive Model Y with the shorter WLTP range.

The Tesla Model Y Performance is the most expensive and also the sportiest version of the vehicle. It differs from the two cheaper electric cars in a number of ways. These are optical, but of course can also be clearly seen in the acceleration. We will now take a closer look at the differences.

While the last two electric cars were very similar on the outside, you can see some differences from the rear-wheel drive and Long Range Model Y to the Performance all-wheel drive variant.

Performance is, of course, as the name of the model suggests, the category where the all-wheel drive Model Y differs from the other two. The most powerful Model Y has the same NCM battery as the Model Y Long Range, so there is no difference in that respect. Due to the higher horsepower, which we will come to shortly, the WLTP range of this electric car with all-wheel drive is also slightly lower than the Tesla Model Y Long Range at 514 km, but still higher than the rear-wheel drive Model Y.

The all-wheel drive Model Y in the most powerful version has 393 kW (534 hp) and a torque of 660 Nm. With an increased top speed for this model of 250 km/h, it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Anyone who buys this variant can also fully charge the car with electricity using 11 kW AC or up to 250 kW DC charging power.

In terms of price, the electric car produced in the Gigafactory Grünheide, Germany, is more expensive than its two siblings with rear-wheel drive and maximum range. If paid by bank transfer, the Model Y Performance costs €55,990.
